Adventuring since 1986.

Today was amazing.

I walked from the Mission to Golden Gate Park, then onto Lands End and back again. It was about 9 miles in total (lots of changes in elevation) and I took the bus home.

San Francisco is very sexy.

On NYE Karl and I ventured down to South Austin for a skating, 80’s party to ring in the New Year. We slapped on some skates, donned our best 80’s attire and had a hell of a night tearing up the roller rink dance floor.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Over the last few days Karl and I camped in Big Bend National Park — it was stunning and gorgeous — the hikes killed me, though. So my NY resolution is to hike more and do more long walks. I used to meander a lot — lately my meandering has dwindled.

Big Bend inspired me to get off my butt and get my feet into hiking boots!

Last night I made Gluhwein! It’s the ideal drink for a German Winter.
Here’s how you can make it, too:
Ingredients
1 litre bottle cheap red wine
30z/75g sugar (to taste)
1 tsp whole cloves
1 tsp ground cinnamon or stick cinnamon
juice of 1 orange and 1 lemon
Preparation method
Pour wine into a saucepan and add remaining ingredients (you can put whole spices in muslin).
Heat until nearly boiling and strain (if necessary) into a warm bowl.
Serve warm.
My Special Tip
Add bourbon or some othe hard liquor

Potsdamer Platz generally freaks me out for some reason. Probably because it’s a piece of Berlin that really doesn’t feel like Berlin (at least to me and that’s coming from an auslander). But, I have to admit I love their holiday decorations.

We walked to this lake by our cabin/barn, mud up to our shins. The wind was wild and whipping the water in a sorta show of dominance. I thought it was pretty anyways.
